Staff report notes petition opposing planned disc golf course at Blackwood Farm Park as Phase 2.B goes to bid

Parks staff reported a site visit and stakeholder meeting about a proposed disc golf course at Blackwood Farm Park, said one hole would be relocated after the meeting, and noted a petition opposing the course is circulating; Phase 2.B of park development — which includes the course — is slated to be put out for bid this summer.
Parks staff told the council on April 1 that they met on-site at Blackwood Farm Park with representatives of the New Hope Bird Alliance, disc golf advocates, the disc golf designer, a DEAPR landscape architect and the park manager to walk potential course locations.
Staff said the meeting was productive and that the design team agreed to relocate one hole. At the same time, staff reported that a petition opposing construction of a disc golf course at Blackwood Farm Park has been circulated by some community members.
Stancil said Phase 2.B of Blackwood Farm Park development, which includes the disc golf course, will be put out for bid this summer. Staff also announced an April 22 Earth Day celebration at Blackwood Farm Park.
Council members did not take a formal vote on the disc golf project at the April 1 meeting; staff indicated the design and bidding schedule will proceed as the project moves through procurement and any required review or comment processes.
