Trevor Robinson was elected chair of the Orange County Parks and Recreation Council at the group’s April 1 meeting in Chapel Hill, and Louise Flinn was elected vice-chair.
The nominations were uncontested. Flinn nominated Robinson for chair and Allen Parker seconded; the council voted “all in favor, none opposed,” and Robinson took the chair. Logan Cason nominated Flinn for vice-chair and Natalie Ziemba seconded; the council again voted unanimously in favor.
David Stancil, a Parks and Recreation staff member, outlined the responsibilities of the chair and vice-chair before the vote. He said the chair leads council meetings, reviews agendas, attends an annual meeting with the Board of County Commissioners and participates in biannual Intergovernmental Parks Work Group meetings; chairs may serve up to three consecutive one-year terms. The vice-chair reviews agendas and serves as backup when the chair is absent.
Council members present for the votes were Natalie Ziemba (outgoing chair), Louise Flinn, Logan Cason, Trevor Robinson, Allen Parker and youth delegate Navya Sharma. Several members were recorded as absent on the meeting roster.
Robinson will preside over upcoming council business including review of a county Trails Plan scheduled for the Board of County Commissioners’ April 14 business meeting and regular PRC agenda items.
