The Bedminster Township Committee unanimously approved a resolution on April 6 to award the Crossroads Park construction contract to J.A. Neary Excavating Inc., of Hillsborough, in an amount not to exceed $546,140.
Miss Ray and committee members described the rebid process, noting the bid came in just under the township engineer’s estimate and that the committee selected the base bid plus alternate 1 (the township declined additional streetscape alternates to coordinate future work). Mayor Jacobs said the township had previously rejected earlier bids after finding the lowest bidder incomplete and that the current recommendation follows engineering and attorney review.
Committee members discussed timing: staff anticipates a pre-construction meeting within days of contract approval and a target mid-summer construction window. The resolution carried on a roll-call vote.
The contract award covers the scope described in the bid documents; alternates for sidewalks and lighting were intentionally deferred to keep the work within the current budget and to coordinate with broader streetscape plans.
