Robin Cousens moved to approve minutes for the April 2 and April 16 meetings; Rebecca Gervais seconded the motion, which passed. The treasurer reported a balance of $7,961.14 and noted a $1,000 scholarship check that had been awarded May 7 at the Killingly High School FFA banquet; the physical check is to be handed to the recipient at the commission's June meeting.
The commission agreed to continue recruiting new members and to reach out to Heather Nickerson about Ag in the Classroom programming. Farm Day logistics were confirmed: Kara will be asked to coordinate with Ekonk Hill Turkey Farm to bring an animal; if the farm is unavailable, Katie Patton has offered to bring a chicken. Christine Wendel Farrugia will bring a beehive; Katie Patton will bring a tractor and soil, pots and seeds for a pumpkin-planting contest; and Rebecca Gervais will provide honey sticks and contest handouts for students.
The special meeting, held via Zoom, adjourned at 6:20 p.m. after a motion to adjourn by Robin Cousens, seconded by Rebecca Gervais; the motion carried 4-0. The commission plans to distribute the scholarship at its June meeting and continue Farm Day preparations.
