The Board of Awards voted unanimously to award Bid #09-25-26-02 — the RFP for a medical services provider for public safety and all city positions — to Emperion, contingent on final contract approval by the Office of the Corporation Counsel.
Purchasing Agent Charles J. Volpe said three firms submitted proposals. V. Werner, Director of Human Resources, told the Board that Emperion and First Choice were judged comparable while Occupational Medicine on the Go did not meet the bid requirements. Werner said Emperion’s larger Connecticut network of physicians and the company’s practice of charging the same rate for every provider within a specialty made it preferable; she said First Choice charges varying rates across providers and some rates exceeded Emperion’s.
Werner also reported that the Police Pension Board approved the recommendation to select Emperion. Werner moved to award the contract to Emperion, contingent on the Office of the Corporation Counsel executing an acceptable agreement; K. Prunty seconded the motion and the Board carried it unanimously.
The minutes record no dissent and no additional contract conditions beyond the contingency that Corporation Counsel must approve contract language before execution.
