Price County senior meal sites report menu preferences and December service numbers

County senior meal sites reported generally positive feedback on menus, requested more soups, vegetables and condiments, and the December 2025 Meal Site Statistics showed 1,421 total meals ordered with an average of 95.3 meals served per day and a $5.21 average donation per meal.
Kris Mabie, Price County’s Senior Services Manager, reported updates to the county’s congregate meal program at the Jan. 29 Nutrition Advisory Council meeting in Ogema, including staffing changes, an updated site form, and meal statistics for December 2025.
Mabie said Peggy Kahl has been hired as the Park Falls site manager substitute and is in training, and that the senior dining site form has been updated and is included in the meeting packet. The December 2025 Meal Site Statistics were presented and placed on file: 1,421 total meals ordered, an average of 95.3 meals served daily, and an average donation of $5.21 per meal.
Council members and site attendees reviewed program/site reports from five locations:
- Brantwood: Attendees reported meals are very good overall, praising chicken tetrazzini and barbecue ribs; they said the updated meal site review sheets are an improvement that could yield better results.
- Kennan: Diners favored the addition of dinner rolls, barbeque ribs and scalloped potatoes with ham; they requested more soup, leaf lettuce on sandwiches, more rice, and suggested making cole slaw pieces smaller for ease of chewing. Several recently served items (bratwurst, broasted pork chop without gravy) were noted as unpopular.
- Ogema: Overall positive feedback; one substitution for Salisbury steak lacked gravy and was not popular. The site requested more vegetables and fruit.
- Park Falls: Generally satisfied with meals; requests included more soy sauce packets for oriental dishes and ensuring adequate vegetable portions. Staff discussed purchasing extra condiments for site distribution.
- Phillips: Dining numbers have increased in recent weeks with four new members attending depending on the meal or dessert offered. A Salisbury-steak substitution proved unpopular until jar gravy was purchased locally. The council briefly discussed the upcoming senior meals provider bidding process.
The council scheduled its next meeting for April 23, 2026, at the Brantwood Community Center. The meeting adjourned at 12:57 p.m.
