COA director: AARP Tax Aide served 112 taxpayers, securing $94,330 in federal refunds

Kaitlyn Thibeault, executive director of the Council on Aging, told the board on May 18 that the AARP Tax Aide season “was a great success,” serving 112 taxpayers and producing $94,330 in federal refunds, $97,328 in Massachusetts refunds and $88,651 in Senior Circuit Breaker credits. She said 94% of those served were age 60 or older and 56% were Sharon residents, with additional clients from Stoughton, Foxboro and Mansfield.
Thibeault said she has created a comprehensive operations manual to consolidate COA processes and procedures that previously lacked a single reference document. She also reported maintenance and administrative work on the COA vehicle fleet: the 8-passenger bus had its brakes repaired, and staff are working with the Department of Public Works to obtain a new title for the vehicle.
On transportation usage, Thibeault provided April totals: 52 medical rides and 224 shopping/event rides, for a monthly total of 276 rides. The director reviewed April attendance and upcoming COA programs but did not provide line-item program participation in the minutes.
The board accepted the director’s report as part of routine business. The COA will next meet on June 15 at 2:30 p.m.
