Norway council raises seasonal worker base pay to $17 an hour

The Norway City Council on April 27 approved Resolution 2026-10 to raise the base hourly wage for seasonal, nonunion workers to $17 per hour, with a $0.25 step for returning seasonal employees.
Dan, who introduced the item, said the change is aimed at making seasonal hiring more competitive with comparable employers and noted the city typically hires three to four seasonal workers per year across departments. "So we're looking at going from 15 to 17 and we would keep our, 25¢ increase, for those that come back each additional year," he said.
Councilors asked about the number of hires and whether the rate would apply to seasonal positions across departments; Dan said the proposed adjustment would apply to administration, electric, DPW and parks and recreation seasonal positions and would be included in the budget when adopted July 1.
A motion to adopt the pay-rate amendment carried with council support recorded in roll call during the vote.
