Board approves Start College Now and Early College Credit participation after student reports on benefits

The Hamilton School District board voted to approve student participation in two college‑credit programs during its Oct. 21 meeting.
District staff said Start College Now currently enrolls 29 Hamilton High students in technical and college courses at WCTC (program examples included firefighter training, truck driving and advanced science); Early College Credit participation includes 14 students taking courses through Carroll, UWM‑Waukesha and Marquette. Both requests were presented as routine participation approvals tied to state rules (for ECCP) and local agreements (for Start College Now).
Two student representatives spoke earlier in the meeting about their Start College Now experiences. Aliyah Wozniak said the program let her complete hands‑on technical classes and earn four ASC certifications that improved her employability and internship prospects. Jacob Winter described completing technical drafting/CAD coursework, preparing for CSWA‑type exams and competing in SkillsUSA; he said the coursework strengthened his interest in engineering and provided transferable technical skills.
The board approved both participation requests by voice vote.
What’s next: staff will process the participation paperwork and ensure courses meet DPI requirements (for ECCP) and that students have counselor approvals.
