Resident flags nearby convicted offender; police say investigation underway

During the public‑comment period on Jan. 7, Brentwood resident Sue Cronin told the Public Safety Committee she is concerned that a convicted sex offender is living near her daughter's home and a neighborhood elementary school.
Cronin said the court record shows the individual was convicted on six counts and received a five‑year sentence, serving about three months before being placed on probation. She told the committee the person is now living on Ulelu and said court restrictions prohibit work in massage‑therapy settings; she reported seeing the individual frequently in the neighborhood and said she has raised the issue with the mayor and an alderwoman.
In committee discussion, a police representative said the department is investigating the matter and has been in contact with the individual's parole officer. The representative added that the state maintains an online registry that the department considers the public notification mechanism. "We are currently in contact with that person's parole officer," the police representative said.
The committee did not take formal action during the meeting. Officials said they would continue to investigate reports brought to their attention and that residents may contact law enforcement with additional information.
