The Early City Council adopted Resolution 22-11 at its June 7 meeting, increasing the fee for mowing nuisance properties to $100.
Councilor Bill Cougill offered the resolution and Councilor Summer Schmitt seconded; on a roll call vote the resolution passed (Ayes: Pickhinke, Schmitt, Blackman, Cougill; Absent: Langner). Mayor Sharon Ann Irwin declared the resolution duly adopted.
City Clerk Lexi Bainbridge read a list of parcels placed on the nuisance abatement list for conditions including structural disrepair, junk and disabled vehicles and said property owners would receive letters giving them 30 days to address the issues. The clerk and council indicated the city lacks dedicated enforcement resources and asked Region XII to present at the next meeting on rental inspection and code-enforcement options.
The resolution increases the administrative charge the city may assess when city staff or contractors mow or clean a nuisance property and will be applied to properties that do not comply within the 30-day notice period. The clerk will handle notices and follow-up enforcement steps.
