Union City Borough council voted July 23 to accept a $5,000 quote from Mansfield to repair and reconnect storm pipes at a sinkhole in Municipal Lot #1, agreeing that the borough would supply pipes and fittings at an additional estimated cost.
Streets Supervisor Bob Phillips reviewed options and quotes for the sinkhole and related storm sewer repair; another bid from McLallen Construction was $6,800. Phillips reported crews introduced dye into a storm drain near Hogan’s Alley and found dye entering sanitary lines that flow to Municipal Lot #1; staff will run cameras through the lines and may extend inspection toward the Salvation Army to determine extent of the damage.
Councilor James Kerns moved the resolution to accept Mansfield’s $5,000 quote; Councilor Steadman seconded the motion. The motion carried unanimously.
The borough did not record a timeline for when the physical repairs would be completed in the minutes; the borough will provide the pipe and fittings, with those materials estimated at $5,000 in addition to the contract cost.
