Waterford Board seeks $2.5M in state aid to replace aging Fire Station 2

The Township Board on Feb. 23 adopted a proclamation requesting $2.5 million in state assistance to build a new Fire Station 2, citing the current facility’s 1952 construction, noncompliance with modern building codes and inadequate sleeping, shower and ADA facilities.
The proclamation states the new station is shovel-ready with a projected cost of $11,632,861, of which Waterford Township would contribute $9,132,861 (78.6%). The resolution lists operational issues at the current station, including one usable shower for multiple personnel, insufficient separate sleeping/bathroom facilities for men and women, aging boiler (1973), and clearance and maintenance issues in the apparatus bays. The Board unanimously adopted the proclamation and signed the request for state financial assistance.
