Board approves Media Network of Waterford PEG contract, funds $275,000; amendment to include work sessions fails

The Waterford Township Board voted to approve a one-year contract with Media Network of Waterford (MNW) for public, education and government (PEG) services and authorized the disbursement of $275,000 for 2026 PEG operations.
Gary Allison, Communications Director, presented the contract, which specifies MNW responsibilities including recording and live airing of meetings held in the Townhall Auditorium (Board of Trustees, Zoning Board of Appeals and Planning Commission), studio operations and equipment maintenance, loaning equipment to residents, television-truck production responsibilities, training and outreach, monthly financial and activity reporting, and annual budget requests to the Cable Commission. The agreement includes indemnification and insurance requirements, reporting and termination provisions, and a clause that MNW’s employees are independent contractors.
Trustee Sam Harris proposed an amendment to change contract article 3.2 from a ‘Workshop Exclusion’ (work sessions excluded unless requested) to a ‘Workshop Inclusion’ so that MNW would cover all Board work sessions; that amendment failed in roll-call (Yeas: Markee, Harris, Hauswirth; Nays: Bartolotta, Thomas, Gilbert, Wall). The Board then approved the contract as written and authorized payment of the $275,000 invoice. The Board also asked the Township Attorney to review the proposed workers’ compensation coverage amount in the contract.
By approving the contract and funding, the Township satisfied audit/funding requirements for PEG operations for 2026; MNW is required to provide monthly financial reports to the Communications Department and to attend Cable Commission meetings.
