Jody Haltenhof of 708 Congress Street told the Ottawa Historic Preservation Commission that the historic brick streets on Ottawa’s east side contribute strongly to neighborhood character but are in need of repair. Haltenhof, who previously served on the Oswego Historic Preservation Commission, also said she has observed an increasing number of single-family homes being converted into rental properties and indicated worry about the effect on neighborhood fabric.
Haltenhof addressed the Commission during the public comment period on March 12. Commissioners listened but did not record any immediate commitments on funding or repair work during the session. No formal action or motion was taken in response to the comment at that meeting.
The comment places a maintenance and housing-conversion concern on the Commission’s record; any follow-up (requests for inspection, staff reports, or coordination with public works) would require separate agenda action or direction from the Commission.
