250th committee outlines schedule and fundraisers for Fair Haven semiquincentennial

Sue Sorensen, representing Fair Haven’s 250th anniversary committee, presented a calendar of events and fundraising plans to the borough council on Jan. 26, 2026.
The committee’s inaugural lecture, “Tales of the Peninsula,” is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at the community center and will examine local history from 1880 to 1930, Sorensen said. The committee’s largest fundraiser, the Liberty cocktail party, is planned for Feb. 20 at the Molly Pitcher; a Patriots parlor tea is set for April 17, and Fair Haven Day — which will include fireworks — will take place Saturday, June 13.
“Fair Haven Day will be Saturday, June 13,” Sorensen said. She told the council the committee had already completed projects including new River Road banners and planting a Liberty Tree, and that a monument template will be installed near the tree in spring.
Council members asked whether the foundation’s fundraising will fully underwrite Fair Haven Day. Sorensen said ticketed events, sponsorship options, sale of signage and other merchandise are intended to help fund decorations, activities and increased costs for fireworks and vendors.
The council liaison and staff said they will continue coordinating logistics with the Historic Association, Shade Tree Commission, recreation department and public works. The council encouraged broad notification for the lecture and other ticketed events; Sorensen said the committee will distribute details through the borough’s channels.
The next milestone is the lecture Wednesday evening; the committee also plans public-registration windows and on-site fundraising tables at ticketed events.
