The Fairhaven Shade Tree Commission opened its Jan. 7 reorganization meeting and tabled a vote for chair after several members were missing from the January roster.
“We are calling this meeting to order at 07:31PM,” the commission chair said at the start of the session. Commissioners nominated two candidates for chair—Jill Sault and Bonnie Torricivia—but debated whether to proceed while three members were absent. “So we'll table until February,” the chair said after members discussed voting rules and proxy limitations.
Vice chair (speaking for the commission) noted that Jill had expressed interest but could not attend the meeting and that absent members could not vote by proxy under the commission’s process. Commissioners discussed options including postponing the vote to ensure an uneven quorum and to allow nominees to be present for a fair election.
No formal motion to appoint a chair was carried at the meeting; commissioners agreed to revisit the reorganization item at the February meeting when more members can attend. The commission recorded that Mark Olsen, Rebecca Plea and Joe Sullivan were absent that evening.
The reorganization item will return to the commission agenda in February; the chair said the commission expects to hold the election with full participation at that meeting.
