Alsip moves forward on sidewalks, resurfacing and sewer testing; bids to follow

Village engineer Jeff Hagen summarized three infrastructure actions the board reviewed: an IDOT-supported engineering award for sidewalks, a Maintenance of Traffic (MFT) resolution and plans for sewer inspection and repair work. On sidewalks, Mayor Ryan said IDOT "approved... over like 465,000 for phase 1 and 2 engineering for the sidewalk programs" covering streets between Cicero and Laramie and segments around 115th–119th and La Verne.
On streets, Jeff Hagen asked the board to approve a resolution under the Illinois Highway Code for FY2027 MFT maintenance operations and related engineering, which he described as covering the annual resurfacing program, crack sealing, signal and streetlight costs and related work: "request of approval or resolution for improvement under the Illinois highway code for fiscal year 20 27 MFT maintenance operations and related engineering in the amount of $1,880,000." The consent agenda later recorded the resolution amount as $1,888,000 when read during roll call; the board approved the consent agenda by roll call vote.
Hagen also announced sewer smoke testing in the southeastern portion of the village (Keeler from 123rd to 127th), explaining the test will help locate breaks and noting the smoke is nontoxic and homeowners should pour "a gallon of cold water into each floor drain prior to our testing." He added the village is preparing bid documents for cleaning and televising the same area, with a bid opening anticipated in late August.
The board approved the consent agenda, which includes the MFT resolution and the ordinance amendment (fire department key box requirements) described elsewhere on the agenda. Hagen said the sidewalk work is tied to an ITEP grant and that construction is expected in the next year, pending procurement and contract schedules.
