The Borough of Ogdensburg’s council unanimously approved multiple personnel resolutions and adopted two ordinances during its May 13 meeting.
Council members adopted Ordinance 06-2024, which amends Chapter 30 of the borough code relating to the Borough Center (BC) district, and Ordinance 08-2024 to exceed municipal budget appropriation limits and establish a cap bank under N.J.S.A. 40A:4-45.14. Mayor George P. Hutnick opened public hearings for both ordinances; no members of the public commented before the council voted to adopt both measures by unanimous roll call.
On personnel, the council adopted Resolution 39-2024 to appoint a borough police officer pursuant to a certified list from the New Jersey Civil Service Commission. Ogdensburg Police Chief Gordon told the council one candidate brings some corrections experience and another candidate with six years’ corrections background is expected to begin academy training July 8, with graduation in November before patrol assignment. The resolution passed on a unanimous roll call.
The council also adopted Resolution 41-2024 to appoint a Labor 1 position in the Department of Public Works. Councilwoman Ruitenberg said the hire’s start date will be May 28 with a salary of $42,000; the motion passed unanimously. In addition, the council appointed Albert Paoli to an unexpired Board of Health term through Dec. 31, 2025.
All motions were moved and seconded on the record and recorded as unanimous yeas with Council members Ciasullo, Cowdrick, DeMeo, Poyer and Ruitenberg voting in favor and Alvarez absent.
The council also introduced Ordinance 09-2024, a water-utility capital ordinance to appropriate $85,000 from the Water Utility Capital Improvement Fund for equipment purchases; a public hearing on that ordinance is set for May 28, 2024.
