Fire chief reports June call volume of 456, lists staff anniversaries

"We had a total of 456 calls," the fire chief said, adding that 227 of the medical calls were for illness, 58 for injuries and five for other reasons. He also said Narcan was administered six times during the month.
The report placed the department's year-to-date total at 2,434 calls, compared with 2,490 at the same point last year — "56 less than we had last year so far," the chief said. The chief provided a detailed breakdown: 22 hazardous situations (such as downed lines or gas leaks), 41 public-service calls, five rescues and 77 non-emergencies (false alarms, canceled calls).
The chief also read a list of personnel anniversaries for July, recognizing long-serving staff: battalion chief John Melon (32 years), an unnamed 23-year employee, Lieutenant Crystal Beecher (17 years), Captain Jenna Topacevich (11 years), Lieutenant Nick Pabon (11 years), training officer William Sontag (11 years), driver-operator Christopher Blake (9 years), secretary/air office manager Jenny Klaus (9 years) and firefighter Josiah Griffin (2 years).
Commissioners did not take formal action on the report; the meeting moved on after a brief question-and-answer exchange about staffing and beach safety.
The commission confirmed its next meeting date as August 3.
