Brookhaven Borough Council on July 6 read resolutions honoring two young residents and presented certificates to six volunteer firefighters.
The meeting opened with Chair recognizing Lucy D'Amico for achieving more than 430 points in her senior basketball season and reaching a 1,000 career-point milestone; the resolution noted she will attend Salisbury University to study physical education and play on the university team. Chair read the formal resolution celebrating D'Amico’s years of dedication and leadership.
The council also recognized Lucas James Havoc for earning the Boy Scouts of America’s Eagle Scout award. The resolution outlined Havoc’s leadership roles, completion of required merit badges and an Eagle project that led a 12‑volunteer team to renovate the Brookhaven Swim Club multipurpose room.
Councilwoman Zimmer presented certificates to six members of the Brookhaven Fire Company who earned nationally recognized Firefighter I pro-board certification. Zimmer said, “This certification represents countless hours of classroom instruction, hands‑on training, testing, and dedication,” and praised the volunteers for leaving family time to respond to emergencies.
Fire Chief Montella noted the certifications strengthen the department’s capabilities and competitiveness for future training and grant opportunities. He added that several firefighters trained as youth and completed hundreds of hours of instruction before turning 18.
The council paused for the recognitions before moving on to routine reports and business.
