Fair Haven swears in two council members and approves 2026 appointments

The Fair Haven Borough Council on Jan. 6, 2026, swore in two newly elected members and approved a slate of municipal appointments and committees for the coming year.
Councilman Kevin Griffin was sworn in first and thanked the mayor, council and residents, saying he looks forward to serving the town and working with the council and a new partner named Christina. Councilwoman Christina then took the oath and thanked supporters and the community for their support.
The mayor read a Sunshine Law notice and confirmed the meeting was held in person at Burrell Hall and via Zoom, with a published public notice and instructions for remote participation.
The council moved quickly through reorganization business. The body approved resolution 2026-001 to appoint municipal professionals for 2026 and resolution 2026-002 to fill attorney positions; both were moved, seconded and approved by roll call. Resolution 2026-003, appointing members and chairs to boards, commissions and committees for 2026, was also approved after the mayor read a list of committees and said the borough endeavors to rotate committee chairs every two years.
The mayor recognized the borough’s fire company officers and Fair Haven Fire Department line officers for 2026 by name, and the council approved police department appointments recommended by Police Chief Joseph McGovern, including special police officers in class 1 and class 2; the mayor noted some school-related positions were being held for a future decision.
The council then approved the consent agenda (resolutions 2026-005 through 2026-040) by motion, second and roll call. The mayor opened the floor for public comment, explained the three-minute time limit and asked speakers to state their name and address; no members of the public came forward. The meeting was adjourned at about 7:18 p.m.
