Monmouth Beach seeks donation or kiosk retention from Wells Fargo for veterans site

During the administrator and general-announcement portions of the April meeting, the chair said borough officials have asked Wells Fargo to keep a banking kiosk in place while the bank finalizes its local plans and have formally requested that the bank donate the former Wells Fargo property so the borough can preserve it as a veterans memorial park.
"We have been working hard over the last year to try to get Wells Fargo to do two things," the chair said, adding the borough wants the kiosk to remain while Wells Fargo completes its closure and that officials asked the bank to donate the parcel to the borough so the site can remain a veterans memorial in perpetuity. The chair said the request is moving through corporate channels and he expects a resolution in the near term.
A commissioner recommended the borough also place the parcel on the Monmouth County Park System list to be eligible for future grant consideration should the borough be asked to purchase the land. The chair said adding the parcel to the county list carries no obligation and would simply keep options open.
No formal agreement or purchase was reported at the meeting; borough officials said discussions with Wells Fargo are ongoing.
