During a housing work session the commission heard that Ottawa County has been awarded a $500,000 U.S. EPA brownfield grant that could support eligible projects in Ferrysburg.
Chair (S1) said he had seen press materials indicating a half-million-dollar award and explained that eligible local projects needing remediation or those seeking housing support could be candidates for county assistance. He said Paul Sachs from the County Office of Strategic Initiatives plans to talk with city staff and may present options to the commission, including county initiatives to support "small footprint homes" that could increase affordable housing while fitting Ferrysburg's character.
Commissioners asked staff to coordinate follow-up briefings and indicated interest in reviewing county incentives and the county's grant-eligibility criteria at a later meeting.
