Camanche council approves trial to move trash pickup start to 6 a.m.

The Camanche City Council voted July 7 to approve a trial change in residential trash and recycling pickup times, allowing Republic Services to begin collections at 6:00 a.m. instead of the current 7:00 a.m.
Council members asked Republic Services whether the earlier start was driven by landfill closing times and how the company would notify residents. A Republic representative, introduced to the council as Matt Pivot, discussed logistics; council members pressed on notification timing and plans to return for missed items if residents did not place containers out on time. One council member said the company had offered to return and that a short trial period (three weeks was discussed during deliberations) would allow the city to evaluate impacts.
A council member moved to authorize the change and another seconded. On roll call the motion passed; council members noted that if the earlier start proved problematic in winter months the schedule could be reconsidered.
The council did not set a permanent ordinance change at the meeting; staff will monitor complaints and Republic will provide follow-up pickups for missed service during the trial. Council members requested that the company communicate the change clearly to residents prior to the trial.
