Warrenton approves $110,209.29 in KCI change orders for wastewater plant upgrades

Public works director Guy Jeevers (speaker 8) outlined the items: Change Order No. 11 for $24,618.02 for equipment and demo work and splitter-box and concrete repairs; Change Order No. 12 for $37,240.43 to revise building wall layouts and door sizes and to add conduit and floor-drain revisions; and Change Order No. 13 (presented in the meeting paperwork and summarized on the record) to add structural digester-support beams. Jeevers said many of the items reflect work that surfaced when crews addressed older, undocumented infrastructure at the plant and described the items as preventative and upgrades to the originally designed scope.
City engineer Jeff Hogg told the board that change orders are common on projects of this type and that the cumulative change-order exposure so far was below typical budgeted allowances. "You usually try to, I mean, guess, I gotta know my thing... you usually try to budget around 3% for change orders. We're at, like, less than half percent," Hogg said, noting the project is about halfway through its scheduled term.
A motion to approve Change Orders 11, 12 and 13 (KCI Construction) in the aggregate amount of $110,209.29 carried by roll call, 5'0to'0 with one member absent.
Jeevers invited newly seated aldermen to tour the wastewater facility to review the work in person and said the city had participated in monthly project meetings to manage and limit costs.
