Heater’s Pond facility-use request tabled after council cites lifeguard shortage

Council members on May 28 tabled a municipal facilities application from Michelle Nardini representing ORA for use of Heater’s Pond, citing a lack of lifeguards.
Mayor Hutnick recommended tabling the application because the borough had received only one lifeguard application to date and the borough continues to advertise for lifeguards. "I am going to recommend that we table the application again simply because we don’t have any life guards," he said. Councilwoman Cowdrick moved to table the application and Councilman Ciasullo seconded; the motion carried unanimously.
Why it matters: the council has previously tabled this application (April 22 and May 13) and wants sufficient lifeguard coverage before permitting an event at the pond. Council asked to be provided a firm or "drop-dead" date from ORA if the group requires guaranteed approval.
Other recreation items discussed included the Memorial Day services at the pond and nuisance geese; council members said the borough is investigating permit status and mitigation options. Separately, scouts plan a community cleanup at the pond and firehouse on June 22.
What’s next: Clerk and parks staff will notify ORA that the application remains tabled and request a firm date or additional lifeguard commitments before reconsideration.
