Superintendent announces three‑year United Way support to continue camp kindergarten

Doctor Jordan, delivering the superintendent’s report, said the district secured funding to sustain its camp kindergarten program with a three‑year commitment from United Way. “The United Way is donating $98,000 a year for the next 3 years to continue the camp kindergarten program,” Doctor Jordan said.
Jordan described camp kindergarten as a program for students entering kindergarten with little to no preschool experience and said the district had expanded the program using prior COVID relief funds. Jordan also recognized a district music teacher, Mr. Gage, for performing at the BET Awards and encouraged families to complete online or in‑person registration: elementary registration will be in person Aug. 10–11 and middle‑/high‑school registration on Aug. 11 (times provided). Jordan reminded parents to schedule student physicals and immunizations ahead of the Aug. 24 first day of school and announced a district career fair July 7 at the district office for classified positions.
On facilities, Jordan showed progress on the “School of Our Future” construction at Springfield High School, describing a new elevator and learning stairs and noting interior demolition has started with exterior demolition expected soon. A board member asked about the Lawrence project; a staff speaker said it is on track to be ready by August.
The superintendent’s report focused on operational and programmatic preparations for the upcoming school year rather than new policy proposals. The board heard the report and continued to the business report.
