Westborough — The Active Transportation and Safety Committee heard an update that the town’s active transportation plan has held a kickoff meeting and is now in data collection; committee members discussed outreach plans and scheduling for comment submission.
Christy, who is coordinating with staff, said the project’s next coordinating meeting is July 15 and that the active-transportation process will include a story map, public meetings, a walkshop and a bike tour. "The July 15 meeting is the active transportation plan coordinating meeting, and that's with staff," she said. Don added that consultants plan stakeholder interviews and public engagement that will include a walkshop and bike tour.
Committee members noted MassDOT/TIP involvement and that some design and signal decisions will be subject to state review. They also discussed internal coordination with the Planning Board and Select Board; members said they will wait for the Kimley Horn final downtown report before the Select Board takes formal action, but that the committee should still finalize comments for DPW by the stated deadline. Christy said she would send the report to planning staff when it is available.
Operational details and next steps: committee members agreed to draft a comment letter reflecting the committee’s technical recommendations and circulate it for review; Christy said DPW's deadline for receiving comments is Aug. 3. Don noted Northborough received a MassTrails grant to study its part of Beewalt, which may influence regional trail planning. The committee set a tentative next meeting for Aug. 17 at 3:30 p.m.
