Superintendent reports end of ARP-funded Summer Learning Academy, portal opening and facility upgrades

Superintendent (speaker 2) told the Mountainside Board of Education that the district's Summer Learning Academy and extended school-year programs concluded successfully and noted those programs had depended on American Rescue Plan (ARP) grant funding that must be expended by the end of the month. The superintendent said that funding is not currently secured for next year and that the district will revisit the program in budgeting discussions.
Administratively, the superintendent announced that the Genesis parent portal will open at 3:00 p.m. Friday to allow parents to access homeroom assignments and schedules; families with outstanding fines may be required to resolve them before portal access. New-staff orientation is scheduled for the week after Labor Day, with teachers receiving training on technology and instructional programs.
On operations, district officials reported replacement of camera systems (running dual systems during installation) with completion expected within the following week, replacement of copiers to improve staff printing and finishing of several tree-removal projects around district properties. The business office confirmed network switch replacements were completed over the summer with partial funding from E-Rate and that HVAC projects remain in progress and will be finished within the first weeks of school.
Superintendent briefings concluded with appreciation for custodial and administrative staff who prepared buildings and programming for the school year.
