The Mountain Lakes Board of Education on March 2 adopted a resolution officially naming the district—s newly renovated turf athletic field "Flynn Field" in honor of Timothy P. Flynn, citing his decades of coaching, championships and community impact.
The motion, presented by the superintendent and recommended by the co-curricular committee under Board Policy 7.250 (School and Facility Names), passed by roll call. The resolution directs district staff to implement the approved name, including signage, communications and a dedication ceremony.
Board members and guests described Flynn—s long career of community service and competitive success. The chair said, "For nearly 5 decades, Tim Flynn has been the architect and leader of 1 of the most respected and successful high school lacrosse programs in The United States," noting state championships, county titles and a high winning percentage.
Coach Flynn, who was invited to speak, thanked the board and community: "This is a tremendous honor for my family. I'm humbled by this motion," he said, calling the field "part of our family" and thanking coaches, volunteers and his wife for support.
Implementation steps in the motion include directing district staff to coordinate signage, communication and any dedication events. The board paused the meeting for a brief celebration and to accept remarks from community members and students.
What happens next District staff will carry out the signage and communications steps specified in the resolution and will schedule any dedication ceremony deemed appropriate.
