Owner and staff present Horseman Log Cabin nomination; commission will consider recommendation next month

The Historic Preservation Commission heard the public hearing for HR1‑26, a nomination to add the Horseman Log Cabin (circa 1872) at 4981 Fox Creek Road to the Wildwood Historic Register.
Department staff summarized the property's history, the Wildwood Historical Society's documentation and the condition and context of the house and ancillary farm buildings. Staff said the nomination was filed as a condition of a variance granted by the Board of Adjustment and outlined next steps: an information report to the commission now and a formal recommendation and action at the July meeting, after which the matter will go to City Council for public hearing.
Applicant Tim Shockley spoke in person about work done to restore the house and said he spent approximately $300,000 refurbishing it to its historic condition. "Our intent is not to rent it out," Shockley said, adding he plans to use the building as an accessory dwelling for family. Commissioners thanked him and had no motions or votes on the nomination at tonight's meeting.
What happens next: Staff will prepare an information report and recommendation for the commission at its next meeting; the commission will then forward a recommendation to City Council for public hearing and final action.
