Planning staff told the commission the barn meets the minimum 75‑year threshold and cited 10 of the city's adopted criteria, including its agricultural construction, materials and rarity as an early vernacular dog‑trot log building. "Given that the Rosenbaum Dog Trot Barn is a rare surviving example of an early vernacular agricultural building," staff recommended the commission endorse the nomination and assign HPC review authority limited to the exterior, the department said.
Commissioner Rob moved to accept the department's recommendation; Secretary Kurt Hensick seconded. Chair Debbie Kornick called for the vote and members present voted aye. The motion carried.
Why it matters: The barn is part of a multi‑building farmstead that illustrates Wildwood's rural settlement history and, as designated, would be subject to HPC review for exterior alterations or demolition that could affect its historic character. No owner incentives were requested.
What happens next: Staff will include the HPC's positive recommendation in its report to City Council for formal action on the designation.
