Wellfleet Board discusses PHE coordination, marina septic repair and coastal-bluff concerns

During new business at the July 8 meeting, the Wellfleet Board of Health heard staff updates on regional public-health coordination, infrastructure repairs and coastal-erosion monitoring.
Staff reported that the regional Public Health Emergency (PHE) advisory group must post agendas and that Eastham (East Ham referenced in transcript) will act as fiscal agent instead of Truro, requiring a new intermunicipal agreement and follow-up with legal counsel. The board was told Katie O'Neil has been appointed the shared-services coordinator for the Barnstable County PHE effort.
Staff also said a cracked pipe and severed effluent line at the marina had been repaired, and that the department will meet town counsel about several houses measured by GIS to be 0–10 feet from the coastal bluff edge. Staff noted GIS measurements are preliminary and that access to private property is limited without invitation; the board will wait for counsel and possible site access before taking regulatory steps.
Members also discussed scheduling for a continued public hearing on updated tobacco regulations and agreed on an August continuation to meet advertising requirements. There were no formal votes recorded on the PHE or coastal-bluff items; they will be continued or handled administratively as needed.
