Council approves storm-sewer contract, truck purchase and routine business; two residents announce county board bids

The Minden City Council on April 14 approved several operational items and heard public comment from two residents who announced they will run for the Pottawattamie County Board of Supervisors.

Contracts and procurement: The council awarded the 2026 storm-sewer repairs contract to Pruett Grading of Logan, Iowa, for $228,535.00 after reviewing bids (motion by Murley, seconded by Schneckloth; motion carried 5-0). The council also approved purchase of a 2026 Ford truck from Keast for $46,040 following consideration of four bids (motion by McDermott, seconded by Schneckloth; motion carried 5-0).

Contracts and services: Council approved renewal of the sheriff’s contract (motion by Schneckloth, seconded by Murley) and renewal of the York Township Fire Contract (motion by Arnold, seconded by McDermott); both motions carried 5-0.

Events, personnel and permits: The council approved a street closure for Grace Community Fellowship on May 27 (motion by Murley), authorized the City Clerk to post summer mower positions at $16.64 per hour, and set May 20–21 as city-wide cleanup days. The council reviewed public-works applications, set interview dates, and instructed the City Clerk to notify applicants. A building permit for 113 Circle Drive was approved on motion.

Public comment: During the public-comment portion, Steve McKern and Charlie Johnson said they will run for positions on the Pottawattamie County Board of Supervisors and asked for community support.

Other approvals: Tracy Wolhuter presented a preliminary architectural feasibility report from KHA for the Community Club; the council approved the report. Employee updates included a request from Jake Nelson to have Burnam Electric reinstall outlets in streetlights for the upcoming 150th +1 celebration; the council approved that request.
