Planning staff told the Kiawah Island Planning Commission on July 8, 2026, that the town is continuing work on stormwater-management standards, is in the process of hiring a resiliency director, and expects two substantive development items at the next meeting: a rezoning and parcel-adjustment for an Ocean Course communication tower and a Sandcastle expansion application in the planning pipeline.
Staff member John said the Ocean Course Tower item is a boundary adjustment to allow placement of a replacement communications tower and will come before the commission next month. An applicant representative said the request is a coordinated parcel adjustment by the property owner to accommodate the tower site and not a request to create new lots.
John also said town staff are preparing pipeline review materials for the Sandcastle expansion and will continue working with the applicant to resolve comments and proceed through permitting. Staff characterized today's meeting as a brief update day and said more substantive materials will appear at upcoming hearings.
