Council hears drone update on new aquatic center construction

City staff provided a construction update on the new Waverly aquatic center during the July 6 council meeting, showing drone video and photos that documented recent site progress and explained key mechanical systems.

The presentation highlighted several visible milestones: the main slide and stairs have been installed, zero‑depth splash features and associated underground piping and trench drains are in place, footings and concrete decks are being poured, and multiple shade‑structure foundations have been set. Staff showed interior photos including the admissions area, concession counters, family restrooms, locker‑room showers and the filtration and heater equipment. Staff emphasized that although the building appears tall from the outside, the upper volume accommodates plumbing and mechanical systems rather than a second story.

Staff explained that the splash pad will have its own filtration and heating systems so it can operate independently of pool systems, and described plans for a surrounding seating/bench wall and perimeter fencing. Council members asked about remaining concrete work, shade structures and whether the project remains on schedule; staff said the dates had not changed from prior communications and invited councilmembers to tour the site.
