Council approves two rezonings, sewer easement and Park Plaza property purchase

Rezoning approvals: The council approved ordinance 20‑26‑23 on third and final reading to rezone three parcels totaling approximately 33.34 acres on Deadfall Road from R‑5 (multifamily residential) to AG‑1 (agricultural). The council also approved ordinance 20‑26‑24 to rezone approximately 104 acres on Emerald Road from RDD (rural development district) to I‑1 (light industrial). Planning staff had recommended approval in both cases and the planning commission gave unanimous favorable recommendations.
Sewer easement: Council approved a quick‑claim deeded easement granting Greenwood Metropolitan District the right to maintain a newly installed 30‑foot sewer main extension that runs under Highway 25 to the North Greenwood Industrial Park site and the county's spec building pad; the easement will allow Metro to accept the line into its system and provide maintenance.
Property purchase: Council also authorized purchase of 619 Edgefield Street from APT Enterprises LLC for $70,000 plus closing costs to expand the Park Plaza footprint; the vote was unanimous.
What happens next: Staff will record the rezoning ordinances and update the county zoning map, finalize and record the easement deed with Metro, and proceed to close on the Edgefield Street property as directed by council. These items were approved without recorded opposition during the meeting.
