Orange County appoints social services and visitors bureau members; broadband task force vacancy left open

After reconvening from the budget public hearing, the Board moved into work session items that included several appointment discussions.
Tara May introduced the recommended appointment of Patricia Garavaglia to the Board of Social Services for a first full term ending June 30, 2029; the Board agreed by consensus to appoint her. The Board also considered appointments to the Chapel Hill–Orange County Visitors Bureau advisory board. Tara May presented Francesca Talenti for a partial term and Jon Hartman Brown for a third full term; the Board agreed by consensus to appoint the recommended applicants and noted that the Chapel Hill Downtown Partnership staff ex officio slot remains vacant.
On the Orange County Broadband Task Force, Tara May explained the task force’s charge to discuss broadband solutions, recommend plans, track coverage needs with state and federal awards, and advise on communications. Commissioners Sally Greene and Earl McKee indicated the task force’s work was nearly complete and that the Board may not fill the At-Large vacancy at this time.
A motion to adjourn, moved by Commissioner McKee and seconded by Commissioner Marilyn Carter, passed unanimously at 9:42 p.m.
