Lucille Terminio Lopez, the mayor of the town of Brentwood, and four newly elected council members were sworn into office on Tuesday, May 6, after the town's election judges read the official results.
Jess Elliott Meyer, the town's chief election judge, said the town received 505 total ballots and read the reported vote totals, including a mayoral total of 279 votes and council totals of 295 for Jerry Burgess, 227 for Julia Elrod, 360 for Glenn Harris and 358 for Juan Millan. "We had, I believe 505 total, ballots received," Meyer said while reading the results.
The clerk of the circuit court for Prince George's County, Maha Sanel Amin, administered the oaths of office. Amin began the ceremony by introducing herself and leading those sworn through the standard oath committing to support the U.S. Constitution and state law.
After taking the oath, Mayor Lucille Terminio Lopez thanked the election judges for handling a last-minute situation and described the process as transparent despite "little hiccups." "I'm honored to serve alongside with such dedicated public servants," she said, congratulating fellow reelected and newly elected officials.
Gerry Burgess, who repeated the oath and signed the oath forms, gave brief remarks accepting the charge and pledged to be accessible to residents. "I'll do my very best to serve each and every resident to the utmost of my ability," Burgess said.
Julia Elrod also thanked residents and characterized the role as "a real honor to serve in this capacity," saying she planned to lead with constituents "front and center." Other newly seated council members offered similar short remarks of gratitude and commitment.
The mayor acknowledged former state senator Victor Ramirez for his encouragement and noted this marked her 10th year serving as mayor. She closed the formal portion of the event by recognizing town staff who organized the ceremony and refreshments for attendees.
The swearing-in and seating were recorded as taking place in Brentwood, Maryland, on May 6, 2025. No formal votes or motions were recorded during the ceremony; the event focused on administering oaths and short acceptance remarks.
