Director Cyr presented a proposed apprenticeship partnership with York County Community College (YCCC) that would create an 18-month pathway for education-technology staff. Cyr said apprentices would receive paid on-the-job training, be full-time benefit employees in partner districts while taking college coursework, and earn up to 60 college credits at no cost to the student.
"It's an 18 month apprenticeship program that will provide paid on the job training and 60 college credits at no cost to the student," Cyr said. The program, Cyr added, pairs apprentices with mentor teachers, provides shortened class schedules including summer coursework, and is currently focused on special education needs; Cyr said the focus could expand over time depending on district needs.
Committee members asked no substantive follow-up questions during the meeting. Cyr described the apprenticeship as a potential pathway to fill EdTech 2 positions and said the district and partner high schools are discussing alignment so credentials transfer smoothly.
