Highway director reports flood damage, federal bridge project on track with major PE award

"The guys had worked feverishly to try to get those all corrected," Carl said, and he thanked staff who installed high-water signs and barricades.
Carl gave a substantive program update on Federal Bridge 28. He said the right-of-way engineering is about 50% complete and the environmental documents work has started. He reported a preliminary engineering (PE) agreement worth $204,300; the county's share would be roughly $20,430 under a 90% reimbursement arrangement. Carl also said the total award on the contract was $918,000 for the broader federal project and noted that Bridge 28 is scheduled to begin construction landing on Oct. 11, 2029.
Chair (speaker 3) and other commissioners asked clarification questions about fleet and equipment purchases tied to highway operations. The highway director said district crews continue ditching and other post-flood repairs.
Commissioners did not take additional binding action on the bridge timetable at the meeting; staff said design and environmental steps were still under way and that right-of-way acquisition work is ongoing.
