Morgantown council elects Daniel Trumbull mayor and names Mark Downs deputy mayor

The Morgantown City Council on July 7 confirmed Daniel Trumbull as mayor and selected Mark Downs as deputy mayor during its regular meeting at city hall. Councilors nominated and then voted on the leadership positions in separate roll-call votes. The new mayor and deputy mayor were sworn into office during an oath-of-office ceremony at the meeting.
The council’s nominations process produced the confirmations on the dais, followed by brief congratulations from colleagues. The oath of office included the standard pledge to support the U.S. Constitution, the state constitution and the Morgantown city charter.
The incoming leadership will preside over council business in the coming year; council members welcomed the transition and thanked outgoing leadership during the ceremony. The meeting then proceeded with approval of minutes and scheduled business.
The ceremony concluded without further formal action related to the appointments; the council moved on to other agenda items, including a presentation by the Citizens Academy and several zoning and policy votes.
