The Village of Harrison board voted to approve the site plan and associated renderings for a new Harrison fire station at the Manitowoc Road location as printed and circulated. Staff reported the planning commission had recommended approval with conditions addressing vehicle circulation, truck turning radii and future roadway upgrades.
Staff noted the first condition recognizes Manitowoc Road as an access-restricted roadway and that McMahon designed an upgrade for that section to accommodate fire-truck access in the future. As part of the motion, the board authorized using Manitowoc Road for a station driveway subject to the conditions in the packet and further coordination with the county/road agency to minimize additional pavement damage.
Trustees voted to approve the site plan by roll call; the record shows the motion passed with six ayes and one excused. Board members and staff said subsequent construction and off-site roadway work will be coordinated to reduce the need for additional borrowing expected for the fire station project.
The board moved forward with the station site plan at the same meeting that included awards for related street and utility work intended to serve the commerce park and station site.
