The Port Royal Town Council voted to accept conveyance of a small wetland within the London Square development footprint and to fund improvements to the wetland system intended to increase stormwater capacity and improve habitat for wading birds.
Staff said the property owner agreed to participate financially in the project and cited an owner contribution of about $25,000 toward a preliminary estimated cost of $75,000. Staff and consultants (including Focal Land Management and the town engineer) described proposed work to adjust dike heights, install or improve flap-gate piping to reduce saltwater infiltration, and create pedestrian observation connections.
Council approved moving forward with taking ownership of the wetland and funding the planned improvements. Staff noted the figure is preliminary and the town continues to refine the scope and cost estimate with consultants.
