The Port Royal Town Council elected Councilman Justin Guerrero as mayor pro tem in a secret ballot during its Jan. 14 meeting, a result the chair reported as a 3-2 vote.
Mayor Kevin Phillips congratulated Guerrero and cited his enthusiasm and leadership since joining the council, saying the council “thought that would be great” and praised his service. The mayor pro tem position is a two-year post chosen by the council to preside when the mayor is unavailable.
Council members did not record roll-call tallies in the meeting transcript beyond the chair’s announcement of a 3-2 result; the new mayor pro tem will assume the duties set out by council practice. The council moved on to other agenda items after brief remarks and congratulations.
