Palmyra Board approves new policies on generative AI, student sun protection and staffing notices

The Palmyra Board of Education on Sept. 10 approved second readings of three district policies and several curriculum and staffing items, including a new policy governing generative artificial intelligence use and a new student sun-protection policy.
The board voted to approve P 2365, Acceptable Use of Generative Artificial Intelligence (second reading), and P 5339.01, Student Sun Protection (second reading), as part of a package of policy and curriculum actions. The board also approved P 1636.01 (Notification of Promotion, New Job, and Transfer Opportunities) on second reading, the Paraprofessional Statement of Assurance for submission to the county, and an affiliation agreement with Rowan University for student-teacher internships.
Superintendent officials reported that schools opened Sept. 8 despite ongoing construction and noted program changes at Palmyra High/Middle School, including a new bell schedule, daily grade-level meetings, revised expectations for cell-phone and headphone use, expanded counseling services and new course offerings. The board accepted the District Graduation Report for 2024–2025 and approved revisions to job descriptions that include a newly created Early College High School Coordinator position.
The board also approved a minor calendar revision: removing a half-day for Palmyra High/Middle School on May 29, 2025, and adding a half-day on June 5, 2025 (prom rescheduling).
What happens next: the approved policies will be implemented by district administration and the Paraprofessional SOA will be submitted to the Burlington County Office of Education as recorded in the meeting minutes.
