Mobile council approves consent agenda, purchase orders and special-event license amendment

The Mobile City Council advanced a broad consent agenda on July 7, approving meeting minutes, numerous resolutions and purchase orders, and taking several routine votes by voice.
The council moved to authorize the mayor to apply for and accept a U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development grant for an automated permitting systems demonstration project under HUD's policy development and research programs; that resolution was approved on voice vote. The council also approved purchase orders for decorative aluminum light poles and fixtures, a Muse point-of-sale software subscription and implementation fee, and a Research Electronics International enhanced spectrum analyzer for detection of hidden electronic devices, among other procurement items presented on the consent docket.
A motion to waive rules for immediate consideration of several resolutions carried. One amendment to a special-events retail liquor license changed event hours; the council amended hours to 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. and passed the item. The council voted to waive the noise ordinance for two special events slated for July 18 (Airport Boulevard) and Oct. 10 (Black Lawn Street); both requests were approved.
The council opened and closed public hearings to fix costs for demolition of structures at 1966 Hals Mill Road and 1401 Vega Drive with no public comment. Several additional resolutions and purchase orders were introduced and approved as read.
All routine consent and procurement items were handled by voice vote; the meeting adjourned after announcements and district reports.
