The Mahwah Board of Education took time on July 8 to recognize the retirement of a longtime high‑school English teacher and to approve a series of personnel and consent‑agenda items.
Assistant Superintendent Dr. Fair told the board that Miss Amato submitted a letter of retirement after 24 years as a high‑school English teacher and that the district had already made a job offer for the vacant position, which the candidate accepted; the candidate’s resume was placed at members’ seats. "To honor Miss Amato, she's been in the district for 24 years as a high school English teacher," Dr. Fair said, and the board offered its appreciation.
On a series of procedural motions the board approved items from the consent calendars. The president asked for a motion to approve items 17 a–f; the motion (mister Gallo moved; mister Coughlin seconded) passed on roll call. The board then approved new‑business items 18 a–q in a single motion and took the retirement item 19a separately before approving the batch of 19b–lll personnel and volunteer appointments. Board members publicly thanked the human‑resources team for its work filling positions and acknowledged volunteers named in the agenda.
The meeting also followed the board’s public‑participation bylaw (0167), opened the public comment period by motion, and, seeing no speakers, closed the public portion; the board subsequently moved to recess into an executive session.
What happens next: the district will place the hired candidate’s resume on file, proceed with onboarding, and bring construction/contracts and other routine agenda items back for formal approval at the board’s July agenda as required.
