Palmyra discusses repairs, trash truck purchase and confirms committee appointments

At the May 5 council caucus borough staff reported on several local projects and personnel matters that the council asked to track.

Engineer estimates for Firehouse floor repairs are complete pending structural-engineer review; borough staff said they will consult the Fire Company before bringing a formal proposal to council. Administrator Mr. Gural said the borough has one rear-load trash truck and is experiencing maintenance issues; council may expedite a capital ordinance to acquire a second rear-load vehicle.

Mr. Gural said there was nothing new on the Legion Field concession stand. He also noted a proposed Park Dedication in memory of Matthew Dickinson will be on a future agenda. The borough is accepting applications for a Court Administrator through June 19, 2025 and will coordinate interviews with county court administrators and the judge.

Council confirmed committee appointments by approving Resolution 2025-151; the construction committee members were listed as President Howard, Richard Dreby and John Liebe (Love was noted as chair), and the resolution passed with all present voting in favor.

Public comment in this section included a Broad Street merchant’s question about Palmyra Day street closures; the merchant questioned the chosen closure point and Police Chief Murphy explained the closure was due to county-designated traffic diversion and the county-designated event footprint.
